Oddball Word of the Day

cupule (KYOO-pyool) n. a cup-shaped process, as in the acorn

(from the guide to MMMW edited by Laurence Urdang)

Note: I'm not sure I get this definition -- how is an acorn a process? "Hi, I'm just standing around engaged in an acorn!"???

I believe the word process here is using the definition: a prominent or projecting part of an organic structure, such as a bone process.

I am glad something useful came out of my aborted Human Anatomy and Physiology course in college.
