I'm switching to a different reference book, as I do not wish to reproduce Mr. Kacirk's very entertaining reference book, The Word Museum, to excess or to his detriment. I will be using an old, 1972, edition of The New York Times Everyday Reader's Dictionary of Misunderstood, Misused, Mispronounced Words for our mutual edification. Since that's pretty cumbersome, I'm opting for "oddball" as a descriptor, with no negative connotation.
